Less things Privacy Policy
Last updated: June 15, 2026
Less things (“the app”, “we”, or “us”) is a local-first decluttering and item-inventory app for iOS. We built it with privacy first: the app collects no personal data. Everything you enter stays on your own device, or — when you choose to enable it — syncs only to your own private iCloud. This policy explains how that works.
1. Overview: we do not collect your data
The app has no server of its own and does not upload your data to us or to any third party. We:
- do not collect personally identifiable information (name, email, phone number, and the like);
- do not require you to create an account or sign in;
- do not include any third-party analytics, advertising, or tracking SDKs;
- do not use cookies or similar web-tracking technologies;
- cannot access any content you create in the app.
The app’s App Store privacy nutrition label is “Data Not Collected,” consistent with this policy.
2. Where your data lives
All the data you enter in the app — including item names, photos, purchase dates and prices, decluttering dates and methods, sale prices, and any goals you set — is stored locally on your device using Apple’s SwiftData framework.
If you enable iCloud for the app in your system settings, that data syncs only to your own private iCloud account via Apple’s iCloud, so it stays consistent across your own devices. This happens entirely within Apple’s infrastructure and is governed by Apple’s Privacy Policy; we cannot access the contents of your private iCloud.
3. Photo access
When you choose to add a photo to an item, the app asks for access to your photo library so you can pick an image.
- This permission is used only when you actively add a photo; the app does not access your library in the background.
- The photo you select is saved only in the app’s local database (and your own private iCloud, if enabled).
- We never upload, share, or otherwise transmit these photos off your device.
You can change or revoke this permission at any time in iOS under Settings → Privacy & Security → Photos.
4. System functionality
As declared in the app’s privacy manifest (PrivacyInfo.xcprivacy), the app uses the following system APIs solely for the app’s own normal operation and never for tracking:
- UserDefaults — to store the app’s local preferences;
- File timestamps — to manage the app’s own local data files.
None of these uses involve collecting or transmitting your personal data.
5. Third-party services
The app uses no third-party backend, analytics, advertising, or data-processing service. The app makes no AI calls. The only third party involved is Apple (the device system and optional iCloud sync), whose data handling is governed by Apple’s own privacy policy.
6. Data retention and deletion
Because your data lives only on your device (and your own private iCloud), you have full control over it:
- Swipe to delete an item in your inventory, or swipe to delete a goal in the goals list, to remove that data;
- To erase everything, delete the app from your device — all local data is removed with it;
- If you enabled iCloud sync, you can manage or delete the related data in iOS under Settings → [your name] → iCloud → Manage Account Storage.
We hold none of your data, so there is no “account” for us to delete on your behalf — the app has no account system at all.
7. Children’s privacy
The app is not directed to children under 13 and does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, including children. Because the app collects no data, no collection of children’s personal information occurs.
8. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Any changes will be posted on this page, and the “Last updated” date above will be revised. For material changes, we will note them in the app’s update notes.
